Child Trafficking Update: Police takes action, in search for infant’s mother Mamta Devi 

Siliguri, 29th March: After the big expose of the child trafficking racket, the police are trying to track down the infant’s mother, Mamta Devi. By far, six have been arrested in the case. Apparently, when Prabha Devi brought the newborn from Patna to Siliguri, she was searched by the police. During this, they recovered hospital bills and a slip of Patna. The slip had mentioned Mamta Devi’s name as the infant’s mother. On the basis of this, the police started searching for Mamta Devi. Along with this, the police are also contacting the management of Dev Hospital.


In the preliminary investigation, the police uncovered that Mamta Devi has two daughters. But some time ago, she got divorced from her husband and their two daughters live with her husband. It has been told that the deal for the newborn infant was fixed even before her birth for Rs 8 lakhs, for which Mamta had been given Rs 3 lakh. Whereas, the remaining Rs 5 lakh was distributed among the people involved in the gang. 

Meanwhile, the court has directed to keep both the accused arrested from Patna on police remand for 7 days. The police will now interrogate all the accused together, which is expected to reveal more about the racket.
