Siliguri, 01st March: Amid rising incidents of snatching in the city, Medical Outpost police achieved a major breakthrough by arresting a youth from Bihar in connection with a chain snatching case after nearly a week of continuous investigation. The arrested accused has been identified as Somi Kumar.
According to reports, on 16th February, a youth had gone to the Dhaknikata area under Medical Outpost to shop at a local market. During this time, a miscreant allegedly approached from behind, snatched his gold chain and fled the spot, triggering panic in the market area.
Following the victim’s complaint, a case was registered at the Medical Outpost and an investigation was launched.
Police tracked down the accused with the help of CCTV footage from the market area and inputs from confidential sources. Acting on information that the accused was seen in the Medical More area, police detained him for questioning. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime, following which he was formally arrested.
The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Sunday.
Police have sought remand to recover the stolen gold chain and to identify other possible members of the gang. Further investigation is underway.
