Caterpillar infestation a concern for Ward No. 39 Haiderpara residents

Siliguri, 01st September: Mango, lemon, and tamarind trees often host numerous unwelcome guests, such as caterpillars and other bugs. Concerned by the increasing caterpillar infestation, residents of Ward No. 39 Haiderpara cut down several trees to get rid of the insects.

As per the report, the caterpillars have nested in almost every mango, litchi, and tamarind tree in the aforementioned area. The trees are getting damaged due to the infestation of these insects.

Utpal Pal Chowdhury, a local, stated that despite oxygen being the most needed component amid the pandemic, they had no other choice rather than cutting down trees.

The locals expressed concern in this regard and urged the Siliguri Municipal Corporation to find another solution to get rid of the caterpillars.
