Alipurduar, 20th March: The carcass of an adult bison has been recovered from the railway line in the Gopnagar area under Ward No. 11 of Falakata. Reportedly, the carcass of the said bison was spotted by the residents on the railway line at some distance from the Falakata Mill Road Overbridge.
As soon as the news was received, railway personnel and forest personnel of Jaldapara reached the spot. The bison was lying between two tracks of the railway line. It is speculated that the bison may have died after being hit by the train. However, the actual cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem.
Forest officials of Jaldapara Forest Department recovered the bison’s body and took it to Jaldapara where the post-mortem will be conducted.
