Siliguri, 17th July: The mortal remains of Captain Brijesh Thapa, the army officer from Darjeeling who was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, were flown to Bagdogra airport on Wednesday. The city was plunged into mourning as the martyr’s coffined body arrived.
Upon arrival at Bagdogra air force cantonment via a special plane from Delhi, last respects were paid to the martyred officer at Bengdubi army cantonment.
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, District Magistrate Preeti Goyal, Superintendent of Police Praween Prakash, GTA Chief Anit Thapa, Siliguri Sub-Divisional Magistrate Avadh Singhal, and army officials paid homage to the martyr. The body will be taken to Darjeeling on Thursday.
The martyred officer’s parents and family members were present, with his mother expressing pride as she paid tribute to her son.
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista emphasized the need for a decisive response, suggesting that Pakistan requires another air strike and urging the central government to take firm action.
