Siliguri, 17th September: In a significant breakthrough, a pickup van transporting wardrobes was apprehended and cannabis worth lakhs of rupees was recovered. Following this, an individual identified as Shambhu Das was arrested by the police on charge of trafficking.
As per reports, the cops of New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police station, acting on tip-off, launched an operation and seized a pickup van loaded with steel wardrobes in an area adjacent to Biswa Bangla Shilpi Haat in Kawakhali. Upon initiating a search, over 4 quintals of cannabis cleverly placed inside the wardrobes were recovered.
According to police sources, the seized cannabis, with a market value of about 42 lakh rupees, was being transported from Jalpaiguri to Bihar. At present, police are engaged in further investigation.
