Siliguri, 07th December: The Pradhan Nagar police have foiled a cannabis smuggling attempt and arrested a youth after uncovering a secret compartment hidden inside a mats. The accused, identified as Jareep Sheikh, is a resident of Murshidabad.
Acting on a tip-off received on Saturday evening, the police conducted an operation in the Siliguri Junction area and stopped a suspicious youth for questioning.
During the search, authorities found mats bag that had been meticulously cut open to create a hidden chamber. Inside the compartment, police recovered 10.3 kilograms of cannabis.
Following the discovery, the accused was taken into custody and produced in Siliguri court.
The police are investigating further to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling network.
