Siliguri, 21st March: The Siliguri Town GRP foiled an attempt to smuggle cannabis on the Kanchan Kanya Express and arrested a businessman during a raid. The accused, identified as Ritwik Roy, is a resident of Purbasthali in Burdwan district.
According to reports, the accused was planning to smuggle cannabis on the train. Acting on a tip-off, Siliguri Town GRP officials conducted a raid when the train reached Naxalbari station. Upon searching, they recovered 6 kg 32 grams of cannabis, leading to his immediate arrest.
The estimated market value of the seized cannabis is between ₹30,000 and ₹40,000. During interrogation, the accused revealed that the contraband was being transported to Kolkata for smuggling.
The arrested individual was presented before the Siliguri court on Friday.
