Rajganj, 20th November: Construction of the Sahudangi Canal Bridge on the road from Sahudangi to Ambari has been stalled for several months, causing daily inconvenience to local residents, school students, and commuters.
Allegedly, the old bridge was demolished two years ago with plans to build a new one, but work has remained halted for 6-7 months for unknown reasons. Residents say the delay has created large pits on both sides of the bridge, leading to frequent minor and major accidents.
Local youth Rajesh Roy said that construction began last April after traffic was stopped on the old bridge. The work continued for a few days before suddenly stopping. With several government and private schools nearby, students and locals are forced to take longer detours.
A local e-rickshaw driver expressed frustration, saying that poor road conditions make daily travel hazardous and increase the risk of accidents. He urged authorities to complete the bridge work promptly.
Binnaguri Gram Panchayat Pradhan Samijuddin Ahmed added that residents are facing difficulties due to the halted construction. He said he has repeatedly visited the site but could not find the contractor or responsible officials. The matter will be escalated to higher authorities to ensure work resumes quickly.
