Siliguri, 18th May: The Calcutta High Court granted authority to central agencies the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate Abhishek Banerjee, the National General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress in connection with a multi-crore teachers’ recruitment scam.
Reportedly, Calcutta High Court Judge, Amrita Sinha, also passed orders allowing the CBI and the ED to question expelled Youth Trinamool Congress leader, Kuntal Ghosh, in connection with his allegations that he was pressurized by central agencies to take Abhishek Banerjee’s name with regard to the case. Furthermore, the appeals made by both Kuntal Ghosh and Abhishek Banerjee were dismissed by the court, and they were fined Rs 25 lakh each. The court has instructed them to deposit the fine amount immediately with the Registrar General of the High Court.
Previously, Abhishek Banerjee had sought a reconsideration of Justice Abhijit Ganguly’s order, but Justice Amrita Sinha rejected the plea and instructed the central agencies to proceed with the investigation.
