Siliguri, 21st December: The cops of New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Police arrested an individual for alleged fraud of Rs 85 lakh by providing misleading information during a land agreement. The arrested accused has been identified as Sandip Kumar Gupta.
As per reports, Bela Agarwal of Jhilmil Commerce Private Limited had entered into a land agreement with two brothers named Sandip Kumar Gupta and Pankaj Kumar Gupta, both businessmen of Khalpara in Siliguri. During this, the brothers allegedly claimed to be the owners of the entire plot of land and took Rs 85 lakh in advance from Bela Agarwal. However, as Bela investigated the documents, the claimed ownership of Sandip and Pankaj proved to be false.
Following the revelation, Bela Agarwal filed a written complaint at the NJP police station on August 29. Based on the complaint, the police engaged in the investigation arrested Pankaj Kumar Gupta on September 14. At present, Pankaj is on bail.
In the meantime, Sandip Kumar Gupta was still at large. On Tuesday (December 19), the NJP police arrested Sandip from an area under the NJP police station. The following day, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court, where the court rejected the bail plea and directed for a 14-day judicial custody. Sources claimed that Sandip Kumar Gupta had also filed his anticipatory bail application in the High Court, however, it was also rejected.
