Siliguri, 07th April: Tension gripped Siliguri’s Hill Cart Road after a businessman was allegedly assaulted.
The incident reportedly began on Monday when a dispute broke out between a businessman and a young man working in parking over a parking issue. The matter was initially settled.
Later at night, several youths allegedly entered the businessman’s shop, physically assaulted him, forced the shop to close, and reportedly threatened his life. The seriously injured businessman was rushed to Siliguri District Hospital for treatment.
A written complaint has been filed at Siliguri Police Station on Tuesday regarding the incident. Local business owners warned that if such attacks continue, they may be forced to launch a larger protest.
They also raised concerns over the lack of regular police patrols in the area, citing insecurity for businesses, and demanded strict administrative action against the perpetrators.
Police have collected CCTV footage from the area and have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
