Bus, auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw pick-pocketing gang busted in Siliguri, two women arrested

Siliguri, 18th January: The Kharibari police have achieved a significant milestone and successfully exposed the gang responsible for the frequent pick-pocketing incidents in buses, auto-rickshaws, and totos (e-rickshaws) in the area. The incident led to the arrest of two accused women identified as Jiya Mandal and Aarti Devi.

Police sources revealed that, on January 12, a couple from Kolkata lodged a complaint of theft at the Kharibari police station. The couple alleged that they had arrived in Siliguri on a trip when their gold jewellery was purportedly stolen from the Panitanki-bound bus. Following this, the police launched an investigation based on the complaint and identified the accused women upon examining the CCTV footage. Subsequently, the accused duo was promptly arrested from the Panitanki bus stand.

On Friday, the Kharibari police station presented the duo before the Siliguri court. Reportedly, the Kharibari police will put forth a plea to take the accused on remand for interrogation to further investigate the gang operating the criminal activity.
