Siliguri, 04th January: A theft took place at a flat in Uttorayon Township, under Matigara police station, where gold, silver, diamond jewellery worth several lakhs, and cash of around Rs 1.5 lakh were stolen, creating widespread shock in the area.
According to reports, the residents of the flat had gone out in the evening with their family. Upon returning, they noticed that the rear gate of the house was open. Entering the flat, they found the grills and almirahs broken, revealing the theft.
The incident was immediately reported at Matigara police station. The flat owner stated that around Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, seven gold coins, 50 silver coins, seven pairs of diamond bangles, four gold chains, and other valuable jewellery were stolen.
In addition, silver items used for worship, idols of Gopal and Radha-Krishna, and a puja plate were also taken.
Based on the complaint, police have started investigating the case and are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the culprits.
