Siliguri, 22nd June: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has taken action to remove illegal constructions on S. F. Road in Siliguri. After noticing encroachments on the road with shops and unauthorized structures, the SMC initiated a demolition drive.
Today, the demolition drive commenced, targeting illegal constructions on both sides of S. F. Road. Local residents allegedly opposed SMC officials and engineers during the drive. However, the intervention of the Siliguri Police helped normalize the situation. With the police present, the SMC efficiently removed the illegal constructions and shops within a span of two hours.
According to reports, numerous shops had been constructed by encroaching government land and the road itself. Additionally, several unauthorized fast food joints and restaurants had sprung up along the road. Furthermore, iron signboards and hoardings were placed in the middle of the road. These violations prompted the initiation of the demolition drive.
During the process of demolishing illegal construction in front of a gym, a dispute ensued between the SMC officials, workers, and the gym management. Later, the situation was resolved with the assistance of the police.
