Rajganj, 19th March: Rajganj police rescued 25 buffaloes before they could be smuggled to Assam.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, a container truck was intercepted in front of the Fatapukur Toll Plaza late on Wednesday night. Upon searching the vehicle, 25 buffaloes were rescued. The driver of the truck was arrested in connection with the incident.
Reports indicate that the buffaloes were being transported from Uttar Pradesh to Assam. The arrested driver was produced before the Jalpaiguri District Court on Wednesday.
Rajganj police have launched an investigation into the matter.
