Siliguri, 01st May: The employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Nationalist Thika Workers’ Congress (Paschim Banga) protested at Hashmi Chowk in Siliguri to support their demands, including opposing retrenchment. Reportedly, last month, 1,350 employees were retrenched across West Bengal, even after working on a contract basis for 20 years in BSNL. Among them were 250 employees from Siliguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong.
Today, the organization demanded that the retrenched employees be re-employed with back wages, including EPF and ESI. During the protest, the employees held placards and expressed their anger against the central government.
According to District Secretary Rajeev Mandal, the organization has sent several letters regarding their demands to different administration camps, but no solution has been provided to date. He warned that a massive agitation would be launched if the demands are not met.
