Siliguri, 18th May: The BSNL contract workers, on Monday, staged a protest outside the BSNL office at Siliguri Hospital More demanding payment of their wages pending for the past one year.
The employees alleged that they were earlier notified that the matter will be resolved within the month of March. However, due to the lockdown imposed across the country, no solution was provided and the wages are still left unpaid. Apart from this, they also expressed outrage as the contractual workers have been omitted from the Prime Minister’s financial package announced recently.
With no source of income and very little savings left, the workers stated that they are living uder severe crisis and are struggling to make ends meet. Condemning the negligence of the management, they warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met soon.
