Rajganj, 08th March: A Bangladeshi smuggler involved in cattle smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border was killed by a BSF bullet fired in self-defense. The incident occurred late Friday night in the Khalpara area of Kukurjan Gram Panchayat, Rajganj block. The deceased smuggler’s identity remains unknown as of now.
According to BSF sources, around 15-20 miscreants from Bangladesh entered the area late Friday night. Some smugglers attempted to transport cattle into Bangladesh by cutting the barbed wire fence. When patrolling BSF jawans intervened and asked the smugglers to surrender, they instead attacked the jawans with sticks and sharp weapons, injuring one BSF personnel.
In response, the BSF was forced to fire several rounds in self-defense. Amid the commotion, the smugglers fled in both directions under the cover of darkness, but one Bangladeshi smuggler was struck by a BSF bullet.
The injured smuggler was rescued and taken to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Two cattle, along with sticks and sharp weapons used during the attack, were recovered from the spot.
The BSF informed Rajganj police station about the entire incident. The police have launched an investigation and are working to identify the deceased smuggler.
