BSF fires at animal trafficker on Indo-Bangla Border in Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar, 21st May: In a foiled attempt to smuggle cattle, a miscreant was severely injured after an intervention by the Border Security Force (BSF) on the Indo-Bangladesh border at Gitaldaha in Dinhata on Tuesday morning. The injured has been identified as Suryajit Barman (30), a resident of the Parmanand area of Dakshin Kharija village in Gitaldaha.


According to sources from the BSF’s 90 Battalion, a group of 20 to 30 individuals from India was intercepted while attempting to smuggle 30 cattle across the border. Upon further intervention, the BSF jawans were allegedly attacked by the group.

In response, the BSF personnel opened fire in self-defense, injuring Suryajit Barman while the others managed to escape. Following the incident, Barman was immediately admitted to Cooch Behar MJN Medical College and Hospital for medical treatment.
