Rajganj, 10th April: The dead body of a youth was recovered from a river in the Parmunda area of Gajoldoba. Reportedly, the said youth was swept away while he was taking a bath with his friends in the river on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Ritwik Roy, a resident of Ambika Nagar under Fulbari Gram Panchayat No. 1. As per Ritwik’s relative, he had taken Toto which is apparently missing after the incident. The matter has been reported to the police.
According to local sources, the Teesta sub-canal is located near Paramunda Park. The water from that canal flows into the Neem River nearby. Outsiders come to swim at the said location during the summer. On Sunday, around 50 youths were spotted bathing between the sub-canal and Neem River adjacent to Parmunda Park, where Ritwik was washed away.
As soon as the news was received, the police of Milan Pally Outpost reached the spot. Today, with the help of the local youths, a search was launched in the river, and the body of the youth was found. Locals alleged that several people had drowned in the same area earlier too. They demanded the park be closed as a precautionary measure. The police are investigating the incident.
