Fulbari, 04th January: The body of Akash Das, a youth who mysteriously disappeared after going out with friends on December 31, was recovered from the Jorapani River near Joynagar Colony in Fulbari II Gram Panchayat on Saturday. Akash was a resident of Laxmi Jote in the same Gram Panchayat.
According to reports, Akash had a fight with a friend and some individuals from the neighboring Dhakaiya Basti on the night of December 31. Later, he and his friends were called to Dhakaiya Basti, where another altercation occurred. During the incident, Akash was seriously injured. The family alleges that his friends fled the scene, leaving him behind.
Following Akash’s disappearance, his family filed a complaint at the NJP police station, detailing the events of the night. During the investigation, Akash’s friends revealed that they had left him near the Jorapani River after he sustained a leg injury. A search operation was launched by a large police force and a disaster response team from NJP police station.
Three days later, locals discovered Akash’s body floating in the river. Police recovered the body and sent it to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for autopsy. The family identified the body, and their grief-stricken response left onlookers emotional.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances leading to Akash’s death.
