Bodies of husband and wife found in Jalpaiguri, police begin probe

Jalpaiguri, 28th June: Panic spread in Dangapara, Ward No. 14 of Jalpaiguri Municipality on Saturday morning after the bodies of a husband and wife were found under suspicious circumstances. The deceased have been identified as Sunny Raut (35) and Nandini Raut (30).


According to reports, Sunny, a resident of Harijan Pally in Ward No. 12, had been staying at his in-laws’ residence in Dangapara on Friday night. On Saturday morning, Nandini’s mother, who had come from Siliguri, discovered the door open and raised an alarm. Locals rushed to the scene and found Sunny hanging from the ceiling fan and Nandini lying unconscious on the bed.

The Kotwali police were immediately informed. Officers arrived, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination.


Neighbours claimed that the couple frequently fought and that Sunny often suspected his wife, leading to tensions in the relationship. Based on preliminary observations, it is suspected that a marital dispute may be linked to the deaths.

Jalpaiguri Additional Superintendent of Police Shoubhanik Mukherjee stated that the bodies have been sent for autopsy, and the exact cause of death will be known only after the report.
