Block administration inspects neglected heritage pond ‘Fatapukur’ in Rajganj

Rajganj, 04th July: The historic Fatapukur pond in Rajganj, after which the locality is named, lies in a severely neglected state. On Friday, Rajganj BDO Prashant Barman, BLLRO Gopal Biswas, and officers from Rajganj Police Station visited the site for inspection.

Once a symbol of pride, the large pond located beside the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway is now filled with garbage and emits a foul smell. Illegal stalls and eateries have cropped up around it, gradually shrinking the pond and diminishing its heritage value.

Speaking to reporters, BDO Prashant Barman described Fatapukur as a culturally significant site and mentioned that the administration would inform the tourism department regarding possible restoration efforts. He stated that the pond spans about 10 bighas, and plans will be made to revive its beauty while preserving its historical importance.
