Siliguri, 20th August: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) No. 08 Mandal Committee protested in Siliguri, on Sunday, demanding immediate restoration of dilapidated road. During the protest, the party accused the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) of neglecting the deplorable road conditions in Ward No. 42.
According to reports, the road near Ektiasal Junior High School, located in Salugara, of SMC’s Ward no. 42 is in a dilapidated condition resulting in severe problems of commute by the citizens. Additionally, the ambulance services for timely pickup of patients of emergency care also got affected due to the road condition. In this regard, the BJP’s Mandal Committee, supported by the locals staged a protest demanding immediate restoration of the road.
The locals alleged that memorandums were submitted to SMC’s Board, Ward councilor, and also the local public representative regarding the repair of the damaged roads; however, the work was not started. The locals further cautioned about resorting to a massive agitation upon failure to resolve the issue.
Rupesh Singh, the General Secretary of No. 8 Mandal Committee stated that it has been more than a year since the formation of the Board of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The General Secretary mentioned the alarming condition of the roads specifically the road of Ektiasal School, Salugara. Rupesh Singh, while accusing the ruling party of negligence stated that the protest would continue following failure to initiate the road works and cleanliness drive.
