Siliguri, 31st May: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest accusing the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) of negligence in supplying pure drinking water. The protest, led by BJP’s Siliguri organisational district, saw leaders and workers rallying from Kanchenjunga Stadium to the Municipal Corporation on Friday afternoon.
Reportedly, as the protesters attempted to enter the Municipal Corporation premises, they were stopped by the police, leading to a scuffle. Subsequently, BJP leaders and workers held a sit-in protest, during which they burnt an effigy of Mayor Gautam Deb and demanded his resignation.
The protest was attended by several prominent BJP figures, including Siliguri Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Amit Jain.
