Kalimpong, 02nd September: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Darjeeling District Committee held a protest in Kalimpong on Monday, demanding stronger protections for women in light of the recent incident at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The protest, led by BJP District President Kalyan Dewan, began at Kalimpong’s 10th Mile Fatak. The procession, which included BJP leaders Shubha Pradhan and members of the party’s women and youth wings, wound through various parts of the city, calling for strict legal action against those responsible for the Kolkata incident.
Upon reaching the District Magistrate’s office, BJP supporters voiced their discontent with the Bengal government, chanting slogans and calling for justice. During the protest, Kalyan Dewan and a team of BJP representatives met with district police officials. Dewan later issued a statement demanding the imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal, citing alleged violations of law and the constitution by the state government.
