BJP protests frequent tree falls in Siliguri by planting new saplings, blames civic neglect

Siliguri, 24th June: In response to the increasing incidents of tree falls across Siliguri, the BJP staged a symbolic protest on Tuesday by planting new saplings in affected areas. The initiative was led by Amit Jain, Leader of the Opposition in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.

The protest began from Hanuman Temple in Hashmi Chowk, where BJP workers planted trees to highlight the issue. Over the past few months, several old trees have collapsed across the city despite the absence of major storms, raising serious environmental concerns.

BJP leaders alleged that the Siliguri Municipal Corporation has failed to maintain the city’s trees properly. They claimed that digging for roadwork and cable laying by the Electricity Department is damaging tree roots, causing them to fall even after light rainfall.

The party cautioned that if the municipal authorities do not take urgent action, a larger agitation will be launched in the near future to press for environmental safety and civic accountability.
