BJP protests demanding arrest of assailants outside Siliguri Police Commissionerate

Siliguri, 29th April: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest outside the Siliguri Police Commissionerate against the alleged attack on its workers in Matigara. They demanded the immediate arrest of all involved assailants, hinting at further demonstrations if their demands were not met. BJP District President Arun Mandal conveyed the party’s stance after meeting with the Police Commissioner, emphasizing the need for swift action.

Earlier, the confrontation erupted over the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan, escalating into violence between Trinamool Congress and BJP workers. BJP alleged that TMC members wielded sharp weapons against them, resulting in injuries and subsequent hospitalizations.

In response, the BJP initiated protests and called for a 12-hour shutdown in Matigara. During this, the streets witnessed demonstrations with tire burning as a form of protest.

Reportedly, at around 4:30 p.m., a BJP delegation planned to besiege the Police Commissionerate, but due to police intervention the delegation was stopped at Darjeeling More. Later, 5 members of the delegation were permitted to meet the Police Commissioner. Subsequent discussions between BJP representatives and the Police Commissioner yielded assurances of identifying and apprehending all accused individuals within 24 hours. The police have committed to taking necessary actions in response to the incident.
