Rajganj, 11th December: The BJP in Rajganj commemorated Martyrs’ Day to honour two martyrs who lost their lives during political violence in 1998. The event was held at the Shaheed Bedi near Gajoldoba Police Outpost in Milan Pally, where annual tributes are paid to the martyrs.
According to party sources, in 1998, a political clash took place between the CPM on one side and the BJP-TMC alliance on the other. During the confrontation on 11th December, Manik Mandal and Padmalal Sarkar were killed. Since then, the BJP has been observing Martyrs’ Day every year in their memory.
On Thursday, a stage was set up beside the Shaheed Bedi for the event. BJP Jalpaiguri district secretary Dadhiram Roy, BJP North Division president Arjun Mondal, Krishak Morcha district president Nakul Das, Tapan Dey, Debashish Dey, Santosh Roy, and other party members were present to pay tribute to the martyrs.
