Rajganj, 11th December: The members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observed ‘Shaheed Diwas’ in memory of two martyrs in the Milan Pally area of Rajganj. The day is commemorated every year at Shaheed Bedi located near the Milan Pally police station.
According to sources, in the year 1998, on one side there was the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the other was an alliance of BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC). As a consequence of a political dispute, Manik Mandal and Padmalal Sarkar were killed on December 11. Since then, the BJP and TMC have been observing ‘Shaheed Diwas’ in the memory of the martyrs.
Reportedly, on Monday morning, the BJP observed ‘Shaheed Diwas’ and paid homage to the martyrs at the Shaheed Bedi. The occasion witnessed the presence of BJP’s Jalpaiguri district President Bapi Goswami, former Dhupguri MLA Malati Roy, BJP’s Rajganj Block Convenor Nitai Mandal, district Committee members Debashish Dey, Nakul Das, Tapan Roy and other public representatives. The event was also attended by Manik Mandal’s wife Devibala Mandal and Padmalal’s wife Aarti Sarkar.
