Siliguri, 28th August: On Wednesday, MLA Sikha Chatterjee staged a sit-in protest in front of the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Police Station over the alleged stone pelting on BJP MP and MLA.
Reportedly, BJP MLA Sikha Chatterjee led a 12-hour strike at the NJP Netaji More area, where she claimed to have been attacked by TMC supporters while attempting to shut down local shops as a part of the protest. Following the incident, a large police contingent was deployed to the area. Despite the police presence, the MLA was reportedly attacked again, with stones thrown at her. She managed to escape the scene on a scooter.
Subsequently, BJP MP Jayanta Roy arrived in the area to visit the MLA, but his vehicle was also targeted by demonstrators who threw stones at it and surrounded him with protests. Both the MLA and the MP later visited the NJP police station to file a complaint. Following this, MLA Sikha Chatterjee staged a sit-in protest outside the police station, demanding action against the perpetrators.
