Siliguri, 22nd January: BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh began a 24-hour hunger strike at Hathi More on Thursday morning, alleging that funds under the MLA Local Area Development Scheme have been withheld by the state government and district administration.
The hunger strike started at 8 a.m. on 22nd January and is scheduled to continue until 8 a.m. on 23rd January. Ghosh alleged that the prolonged delay in releasing MLA development funds has caused several development projects in the area to come to a standstill.
Calling the protest peaceful, the MLA said the continued withholding of funds has adversely affected development work and public welfare in his constituency. Several BJP leaders, party workers and supporters were present at the protest site in solidarity with him.
