Siliguri, 11th February: On Sunday, the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha held a police station ‘gherao’ program across the state including Siliguri over the Sandeshkhali incident.
It has to be noted that Sheikh Shahjahan was still at large from police custody in connection to the case. Meanwhile, in the wake of harassment towards women, the incident raised questions regarding the role of the state government and police prompting the BJP to hold the program.
According to reports, the BJP Mahila Morcha has embarked on the streets in various locations of the state as well as in Siliguri. On this day, demonstrations were held in various police stations under the Siliguri Metropolitan Police demanding the arrest of the notorious Sheikh Shahjahan. In addition to the arrest, the Mahila Morcha also raised their voice against the abuse towards women all over the state.
