Bidhannagar police foiled animal trafficking, rescued 49 buffaloes, three arrested at Phansidewa

Phansidewa, 08th May: The Bidhannagar Police successfully foiled an attempt of animal trafficking by intercepting and confiscating a truck and two pick-up vans that were carrying buffaloes. The animals were being trafficked from Uttar Dinajpur District to Bangladesh via Assam. As a result, three individuals named Mantosh Kumar Roy, Pappu MD, and Biplab Sarkar were arrested for failing to provide valid documents regarding their load.


Acting on a tip-off, the Bidhannagar police conducted an operation in the Murliganj Check Post area under the Phansidewa block. They apprehended a truck and two pick-up vans and upon inspection, discovered a total of 49 buffaloes, all of which were rescued safely.

Sources from the police department revealed that 33 buffaloes were recovered from the truck, while the remaining 16 were found in the two pick-up vans. Today, the three accused individuals were presented before the Siliguri Divisional Court, and the police continue their investigations into the matter.
