Bidhan Market to shut down for 24 hours on August 16, MP Bista meets the traders

Siliguri, 14th August: On August 16, Siliguri’s Bidhan Market will remain closed for 24 hours in view of protests demanding ownership of the business establishments as per the directives of the Siliguri Bidhan Market Byabasayee Samity.


As per reports, a huge procession will commence at 11 am from Siliguri’s main road, circumambulate various routes via Bidhan Road, and eventually conclude at the Bidhan Market. In this regard, Bapi Saha, Secretary of Bidhan Market Byabasayee Samity, mentioned his discussion with Darjeeling BJP MP Raju Bista regarding the ownership issue and declared the temporary shutdown on August 16.

Meanwhile, MP Raju Bista participated in the ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ at Bidhan Market, where he paid homage to the statues of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose with flower garlands and commemorated the day.


Following this, the MP convened a meeting with the organization’s officials at the office of the Bidhan Market Byabasayee Samity and noted that he would highlight the issue of ownership of Bidhan Market in the Legislative Assembly through the MLA. In addition, the MP mentioned raising the issue himself in the Parliament and that it would be subsequently informed to the state government and the Governor through the center. Furthermore, MP Bista raised a question, stating that if Rohingyas can be granted land ownership in West Bengal, then the businessmen of Bidhan Market should not be denied the same privilege.
