Siliguri, 17th August: Police team of Bhaktinagar police station, acting on a tip-off, detained one scooty being driven by a person at Sevoke Road, late Monday night. The accused has been identified as Ranjit Mahato of Champasari Anchal under Pradhan Nagar police station area.
On searching the detained, the police recovered 100 bottles of banned cough syrup, which he was carrying on the said scooty inside a gunny bag. On being asked, he failed to produce any valid documents, in respect of his having possession of such a large quantity of contraband drugs.
The police seized the drugs along with the scooty and took the accused Ranjit Mahato into custody. A specific case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act is being initiated against the accused person at Bhaktinagar police station.
