Siliguri, 19th September: In a bid to enhance security ahead of Durga Puja, Siliguri Metropolitan Police launched a special drive campaign aimed at curbing criminal activities in the city.
As part of the initiative, Bhaktinagar police station officers arrested five suspects on Wednesday night before they could commit a planned crime. The arrested individuals, identified as Sayan Barman, Bappa Das, Manoj Roy, Sujay Roy, and Krishna Chandra Gop, are all residents of areras under the Bhakti Nagar police station.
According to police sources, the gang of miscreants had gathered near PC Mittal bus stand and were plotting a crime in the Sevoke Road area. However, during the special drive, undercover officers spotted the group. While some members of the gang fled upon noticing the police, five were apprehended. Weapons were also recovered from the suspects.
The accused were produced in Jalpaiguri court on Thursday, and a search is ongoing for the remaining members of the gang.
