Bengali New Year celebrated with pomp through a grand procession in Siliguri

Siliguri, 15th April: Today marks the first day of the month of Baisakh, which is also referred to as “Pohela Boishakh.” This day holds a special significance for the Bengali community. It is the first day of the Bengali calendar and is celebrated as the Bengali New Year. During the celebration on Saturday, people cherished the good memories of the past year and welcomed a fresh start in the new year 1430. 


Likewise, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation welcomed the new year through a celebration organized at Baghajatin Park. A ‘Mangal Shobhayatra’ was also taken out to make the New Year’s morning more beautiful. Starting from Baghajatin Park, the procession circumambulated various routes of the city and ended at Suryasen Park. Biding goodbye to the year 1429, the road in front of Baghajatin Park was decorated with vibrant artwork since Friday night.

Siliguri Municipal Corporation Mayor Goutam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Mayor Council and other dignitaries were present in on the ocassion.
