Siliguri, 10th June: Two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from West Bengal, Sukanta Majumdar and Shantanu Thakur, were sworn in as Union Ministers of State (MoS) in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet. This marks the first time Sukanta Majumdar has taken on a ministerial role at the central level, while Shantanu Thakur has been appointed as the MoS for Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Both MPs have been re-elected for the second consecutive term in the Lok Sabha elections. Sukanta Majumdar represents the Balurghat seat in North Bengal, while Shantanu Thakur represents the Bangaon Lok Sabha seat.
The induction of Majumdar and Thakur into the Modi cabinet is part of a larger cabinet expansion, where 72 ministers were sworn in following Narendra Modi’s swearing-in as Prime Minister on Sunday.
