The Election Commission of India, amid the ongoing Legislative Assembly elections in West Bengal, has banned Bhartiya Janta party (BJP) candidate Rahul Sinha from Habra constituency for 48 hours from campaigning over his controversial remark on Sitalkuchi, Cooch Behar violence.
Reportedly, after the violent incident in Cooch Behar, Rahul Sinha said “Not four, eight people should have been shot dead in Shitalkuchi.”
Meanwhile, CM Mamata Banerjee was also banned from campaigning for 24 hours, a day ahead of Sinha’s ban, over the comments on Muslim votes and for allegedly encouraging protests against central forces.
The Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee is on a dharna in front of the Gandhi statue in Kolkata, to protest against the ban.
