Rajganj, 27th March: Belakoba range forest department achieved another success by recovering teak wood laden in containers before smuggling. Along with the recovery of wood, the forest workers also arrested three people in the incident.
Reportedly, acting on a tip-off forest personnel under the leadership of Sanjay Dutta, Ranger of Belkoba Range, intercepted a container by conducting an operation in Sariam area of Rajganj on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway. After this, teak wood worth Rs 70 lakh was recovered from the container during the search and three people inside the container were arrested. The accused have been identified as Swapan Thakur, Mohammad Saddam Hussain and Nandbir Singh. Swapan Thakur is said to be a resident of Cooch Behar, Mohammad Saddam Hussain from Assam and Nandbir Singh is from Uttar Pradesh.
According to the sources, the wood was being smuggled from Guwahati to Kolkata. The four-wheeler used in smuggling has also been seized. The arrested people will be produced in the Jalpaiguri district court tomorrow.
