Rajganj, 22nd May: Belakoba Gram Panchayat Pradhan Purnima Roy has resigned from her post and also claimed that she has severed all ties with the Trinamool Congress.
On Friday afternoon, she suddenly reached the Jalpaiguri Sadar BDO office and submitted her resignation to BDO Biplab Kumar Biswas. She was accompanied by her husband Amar Roy.
After leaving the BDO office, she made serious allegations, while her husband claimed that she was abducted and forced to join the TMC from the BJP.
It is worth mentioning that in the 2023 panchayat elections, the 29-seat Belakoba Gram Panchayat saw BJP winning 15 seats, TMC 12 seats, and 2 seats going to Independents. Purnima Roy had won the election on a BJP ticket.
Allegations have been made that she was abducted and made to join the TMC in order to gain control of the panchayat. Later, she was appointed as the panchayat Pradhan after the political equations changed.
While speculation has arisen over whether she will rejoin the BJP, district BJP leadership has stated that no such return will be considered at this stage.
