Rajganj, 07th January: The forest workers of Belakoba range recovered teak wood worth about Rs 40 lakh while it was being smuggled. Based on a tip-off, a team of range personnel intercepted a truck this morning in Panikauri area of Rajganj on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway.
During the search, teak wood worth over Rs 40 lakhs was recovered and the truck driver, Raipur Chhattisgarh resident Ritesh Kumar Johri, was taken into custody. According to the forest department, the wood was being transported from Guwahati to Kolkata.
The accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri district court on Sunday. The forest department is probing the entire incident.
