Kharibari, 24th December: Police of Kharibari police station foiled another drug trafficking attempt by arresting a drug peddler with a large quantity of banned cough syrup at the Bengal-Bihar border. The accused was posing as a regular commuter and transporting the contraband on a motorcycle.
According to sources, the arrest was made at Banchabhita in the Bengal-Bihar border area. The trafficker was intercepted before he could deliver the consignment to the Panitanki area near the Indo-Nepal border. During the search, police recovered 150 bottles of banned cough syrup from his possession.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rintu Kumar Sinha, a resident of Bahadurganj in Bihar. Police officials stated that the seized cough syrup has an estimated market value of around Rs 5 lakh.
The accused will be produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional court. Police have initiated a detailed investigation to identify other members involved in the drug trafficking network.
