‘Banjara gang’ member arrested in Siliguri for theft under the guise of begging

Siliguri, 03rd July: In a significant development, the Bhakti Nagar police apprehended a member of the notorious Banjara gang involved in thefts under the guise. The arrested woman has been identified as Babuni Ved from Paschim Burdwan.


 

Reports indicate that the arrest was made following a theft incident in the Jyoti Nagar area near ISKCON Road on June 30 where gold jewellery worth lakhs was stolen from the wardrobe. Subsequently, a complaint was lodged with the Bhakti Nagar police station on July 1. Following further investigation, including examining the CCTV footage from the area, the officials arrested Babuni Ved. During interrogation, Babuni admitted to her involvement that led authorities to recover the stolen gold. 


 

Police sources revealed that the Banjara gang had been executing robbery in various parts of the city under the guise of begging. The arrested woman has been produced before the Jalpaiguri Court. At present, the law enforcement is on a hunt to capture other possible suspects in connection to the case.
