Bangladeshi national arrested near Bagdogra Army Camp, sparks security concerns

Bagdogra, 28th May: A Bangladeshi national was arrested near the Bagdogra Army Camp, raising fresh concerns about infiltration in the sensitive area. The arrested individual has been identified as Azizul Islam, a resident of Damilipur in Barisal, Bangladesh.

According to reports, army personnel noticed the man roaming suspiciously near the camp and detained him for questioning. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that he had illegally crossed the India-Bangladesh border. He was later handed over to Bagdogra Police Station and produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday.

Authorities recovered a Bangladeshi 10-taka currency note and other Bangladeshi documents from the accused.

It is to be noted that this is the second such incident this month. On 9th May, another Bangladeshi national, Ashraful Alam, was arrested from MM Terai, also near the army camp. The back-to-back arrests have heightened concerns amid strained diplomatic ties with Bangladesh following the India-Pakistan conflict.
