Bangladeshi Hilsa fish arrives in Alipurduar market, draws crowd to Sufal Bangla Stall

Alipurduar, 13th May: Bengali Hilsa enthusiasts have a cause for celebration as fresh Hilsa from the Padma River in Bangladesh has been brought at the market in Alipurduar, available exclusively at the Sufal Bangla stall.


Reports indicate that on Monday, a consignment of 50 kg of Bangladeshi Hilsa arrived in the city, drawing crowds of eager buyers to the Sufal Bangla stall. Although, Hilsa has been a staple in the market, this marks the first appearance of the prized Bangladeshi variety in Alipurduar. Priced at Rs 1800 for 2 kg, and Rs 1650 per kg for fish weighing between 1 kg to one and a half kg, the Bangladeshi Hilsa has garnered significant attention.

Despite hopes for reduced prices, the traders asserted that the rates are unlikely to decrease. Amjad Ali, the manager of Sufal Bangla Stall, revealed that the decision to introduce Bangladeshi Hilsa was made well in advance of ‘Jamai Shashti’, a significant occasion, owing to the enduring love for Hilsa among Bengali consumers.
