Bangladeshi family arrested in Siliguri for allegedly living in India for 8 years on forged documents

Siliguri, 5th April: Police from the NJP Police Station have arrested a Bangladeshi family for allegedly residing illegally in India for nearly eight years using forged identity documents.

The accused have been identified as Azam Ali and his wife Rima Akhtar, who were living in the Fulbari border area along with their minor daughter.

According to police sources, the family entered India in 2016 from the Matherganj region of Bangladesh with valid documents for medical treatment. However, their visas expired in phases, first for the couple in 2019 and later for their daughter in 2021. Despite the expiry, they continued to stay in India without authorization.

Investigations revealed that Azam Ali allegedly concealed his identity and managed to obtain forged Aadhaar cards and Indian passports. Using these fake documents, he reportedly secured employment at a private hospital in Bengaluru.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in the Fulbari border area and detained the family. During questioning, inconsistencies in their statements led officials to uncover the alleged forgery and illegal stay.

A case has been registered against the accused on charges of illegal residency, unauthorized border crossing, and forging Indian identity documents. The trio was produced before the Jalpaiguri Court on Sunday.
