Siliguri, 15th May: Bangiya Hindu Mahamancha gheraoed the Siliguri Municipal Corporation on Thursday, carrying biryani packets in protest after worms were allegedly found in biryani meat sold at a shop near Champasari More.
The protest follows a recent incident where a customer discovered worms in the meat after purchasing biryani and taking it home. A similar case had earlier been reported from Lake Town, raising alarm over recurring food safety violations.
Accusing the SMC and Food Safety Department of negligence, the protesters demanded immediate action. They attempted to hand over the biryani packets to the mayor but were stopped at the gates. Slogans were raised as the mayor entered the building, and the packets were left at the entrance as a mark of protest.
Public outrage continues to grow as questions mount over food safety and municipal oversight in Siliguri.
